10 ways to spend time and have fun
Having a hobby or playing a game, be it simple or complicated, distracts the mind from our day to day woes. Here are some ideas on what hobbies or games to play. Not necessarily ranked in order of preference.
1. Imagine, dream and think – Dreaming up of things and imagining helps not only to exercise your creativity but also gives you good ideas. It may be as simple as thinking up of how to grow your plants better to as fantastic as imagining yourself to have invented the world’s first real anti-gravity vehicle! The sky is the limit and then some.
2. Paint, draw, model(clay or other medium) etc. – Creating things from your imagination. You can call this as the next step after you have done imagining. thinking up of things and seeing them on paper or canvass is highly rewarding. All it takes is perseverance, some research, some artistry and you will have a visual representation of your thoughts.
3. Swim or jog – I always find these exercise highly relaxing. Coming from work that demands a lot of mental energy, you simply must relax. Swimming for a couple of laps eases the pressure the day’s work has put on you.
4. Action figures, toys for boys old and young – Not necessarily limited to the male group, but there is something about posing an action figure that touches on the little boy (or girl) inside of you. If this isn’t your cup of tea then mayhap, a different toy such as electronic games (PSP, NDS, Gameboy etc) would be more to your liking. The point is to kill time while enjoying it.
5. Start/Join a club – Whatever your interests, its best to have people around who do share them with you. You can talk shop and learn or teach new things.
6. Drive a kart – Its fun, its fast, its for everybody (well almost). So what is there not to like?
7. Line up dominoes, carve an ice figure – Basically anything that has you building or creating something and then having to let go of that something. This is good, albeit in a different sort of way. Having to carve an ice sculpture for hours only to let it melt in as little or less time or lining dominoes up and then tumbling them down can be emotionally freeing in most people.
8. Go to a comedy bar – Laughing is always good medicine. It relaxes you and frees you. Just make sure you get the punchline.
9. Eat, cook and pig out – There is something to be said for tasting your first dish of something exotic or even just eating your favorite burger and fries at your local Uncle Joe’s. Don’t mind the added weight, you can always work out later. Just don’t do this too often.
10. Travel – If you have the inclination and the budget, then go to different places. Visit Asia, or Europe. Travel across the deserts of Egypt and run through the fields of New Zealand. Soak yourself in the sun underneath Boracay’s lovely sun or discover hidden grottoes and caves in Indonesia. Or you can just step outside and see whats over the next hill. The point is to discover and make new friends and understand other people.
